World News - Hosni Mubarak Threatened Death Penalty

He was allegedly involved in murder of hundreds of demonstrators in uprisings in Egypt last year.

Egyptian prosecutors formally propose the death penalty for former President Hosni Mubarak and his cronies on the court session Thursday, January 5, 2012. These penalties are imposed for Mubarak's role in the deaths of hundreds of protesters last year.

It is delivered by a civilian lawyer representing the families of the victims, Khaled Abu Bakr, reported by CNN. Submission of a death sentence by the prosecutor of this court delivered on the third day in Cairo.

According to Abu Bakr, the prosecutor filed hanged for Mubarak, a former Interior Minister Habib El Adly and four aides. As for two other aides, prosecutors wanted the maximum jail sentence.

Lawyers for the victims, including Abu Bakr, the court sanctioned the attorney will file charges. According to him, Mubarak will likely only get a prison sentence.

This is due to the difficulty of proving that the investigation team president ordered the killing of the demonstrators. Abu Bakr hoped verdict on Mubarak may be dropped before 25 January, coinciding with one year of commencement upheaval in Egypt.

Court will resume next Monday with an agenda submission of evidence incriminating the perpetrators by the attorney. Mubarak's two sons, Gaman and Alaa, also indicted for the same case. Both Mubarak and his two sons pleaded not guilty.

In a demonstration demanding Mubarak fell early last year, as many as 225 demonstrators were killed and more than 1,300 injured. Amnesty International estimates that even the death toll reached 840 people, and 6,000 were injured. viva
